Northumberland County in the Northern Neck of Virginia offers over 400 miles of waterfrontage and includes both white sandy beach properties and deep protected harbors suitable for large sailboats.  We are just hours away from Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia, Richmond and Norfolk.  Our prices are usually much lower than other waterfront areas because the Northern Neck is still "undiscovered" by the general public.

Northumberland County, together with Westmoreland County and Lancaster County all offer deep water properties with piers for your sailboat or lifts for game fishing boat, excellent tourament game fishing opportunities; crabbing, and oystering for your leisure time pleasure, and memorable seafood restaurants (some accessible by boat).
  
The inlets and bays are wonderful opportunities for kayaking, beachcombing, and just plain sunset watching.  The Northern Neck is still an easy "laid back" style of living away from the hustle and bustle of urban life. 

The small waterfront town of Reedville in Northumberland County will remind you of a New England fishing village and there are plenty of bed & breakfast establishments and motels if you decide to stay overnight.  At the turn of the 19th century, Reedville was listed as the richest town per capita in the United States.  Step back to the late 1800's when fishing and fish oil were major factors in the American way of life by visiting the Reedville Fishermen's Museum on your trip to Reedville.  From Reedville, you can take a passenger ship to visit the islands of Tangier and Smith Island located in the Bay.

Nortumberland's better known bodies of water include the Little Wicomico River, Great Wicomico River, Cockrells Creek, Yeocomico River, Cod Creek, Hull Creek, the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay.  If you hold one of the monthly issues of the Real Estate Review and have spotted the perfect property but wonder just where that creek, bay, or river is located, use this handy Northern Neck Water Locator to identify the body of water.
